Christmas Recipe for a Home

Christmas Recipe for a Home

Christmas Recipe for a home is all about traditions and rituals.  Growing up I enjoyed many great meals.  Every day was a feast that filled our minds, body and soul.  Christmas Eve for us holds many traditions and rituals.  We gather at my mother’s house for a meal of mostly fish also known as “The Feast Of The Seven Fishes”. There  are at 20 of us and even at the age of 83,my mother continues to lavish us with the dishes of our ancestors.

Nonna loves her downstairs kitchen and sets the long table.

Her cooking begins early in the morning. One of our favourite dishes is fried rapini.

The Christmas cabbage cooks slowly.

One of the many fish dishes.

Our calamari is easy and ready for the table.

Traditional pasta with sarde.

Stuffed eggplant.

There are presents  under the tree and around my mother’s small living room.  Tradition allows us to open gifts on Christmas Eve.  By the end of the  evening the living room now covered in crinkly paper and glitter becomes a picture of delight.   Holidays are a time for sharing traditions, recalling memories of days gone by and making new memories.  These are the most treasured gifts that we give to each other.

As I look at my grandson, I know that he has a large and loving family that remembers the past to celebrate the present to make sure that our traditions continue in the future. From our table tonight, we wish you and yours a most joyous holiday filled with PEACE. Bring the recipe of love to your table.

Tonight I share pictures of the food we bring to our table this Eve.  Also the following recipe is one from among some old teaching papers that I found in a box the other day.  It goes well with the spirit of Christmas.  I didn’t write it and don’t know its source.
